Choosing a college is one of the most important decisions that you will ever make and the American College of the Building Arts is not like any other college that you may be considering. We are the only college in the country to offer Bachelors degrees in the Building Arts. What is a degree in the building arts? First, we integrate classes in the traditional liberal arts with architecture, design, historic preservation, drawing and drafting, architectural history, material science, management and construction. In addition, each student spends two full days a week for four years learning the artistry and hand skills in one of six areas of specialization; Architectural Stone Carving, Forged Architectural Ironwork, Plaster Working, Timber Framing, Carpentry or Preservation Masonry.

Our school has been compared to a historic preservation program with intensive “hands-on” training or an architecture program where the students can build and draw with their hands and not just operate a design software program; however, it is much more.  Our mission is to create artisans and master craftsmen who have the ability to think, reason and question.  Ours is an education for the mind and the hands with an integrated curriculum that challenges everyone and pushes them to find skills within themselves they did not imagine existed.

The American College of the Building Arts is not for everyone.  But for those visionaries who can imagine creating art that will last for generations, saving historic structures for the future and connecting to our past to bring a new way of thinking into the next century, we welcome you!
